Ricardo Delgado Cruz

Mata Ortiz and
Casas Grandes
Pot with bird, branch and geometric design by Ricardo Delgado Cruz

Born in 1970, Ricardo Delgado Cruz has been producing pottery since 1999. His teacher was Manuel "Manolo" Rodriguez. Ricardo's style has grown to include light carving and sgraffito in addition to his intricate painted designs that often include realistic animals and swirling bands of traditional Paquimé patterns.

Ricardo says he enjoys the painting and carving most but he often purchases his pots from other potters. Lorena Arras, Ricardo's wife, often helps him with sanding, polishing and filling in larger painted areas on his pots.

Ricardo first entered the Concurso de Mata Ortiz in 2000.
