Arturo Quezada

Mata Ortiz and
Casas Grandes
Sgraffito and painted hummingbird, branch and flower design on a large polychrome jar

Arturo Quezada Olivas is the next-to-youngest son of Juan and Guillermina Quezada. Like his siblings he grew up watching and helping as his folks made, decorated and fired pottery.

Today, Arturo has earned a reputation for producing some of the largest and finest jars produced in Mata Ortiz. He likes to decorate them with intricate sgraffito and painted designs, sometimes in the Quezada style, sometimes in the Porvenir style.
